We are in the process of installing 2 Cisco 8500 wireless controllers. After going through the initial configuration, we noticed that the ports Link Status on the 8500 controller showed Down and we were unable to ping our controllers:
(Cisco Controller) >show stats port sum
Link Pkts In Pkts In Pkts Out
Pr Status Pkts In Pkts Out Bcast Errors Errors Collisions
— —— ——- ——- ——- ——- ——- ———-
1 Down 17 0 0 0 0 0
2 Down 0 0 0 0 0 0
Total 17 0 0 0 0 0
After some digging, we figured out that you have to enable those ports:
(Cisco Controller) config>port adminmode 1 enable
(Cisco Controller) config>port adminmode 2 enable
(Cisco Controller) config>exit
(Cisco Controller) >
(Cisco Controller) >show stats port sum
Link Pkts In Pkts In Pkts Out
Pr Status Pkts In Pkts Out Bcast Errors Errors Collisions

1 Up 17 4 0 0 0 0
2 Down 0 0 0 0 0 0
Total 17 4 0 0 0 0
