Cisco UCS SAN Boot

If you have a Cisco UCS system, you probably want to do SAN boot.  It is a simple, and quick  task to perform.  This is a follow up to an earlier post on UCS with local FC storage.

Just remember that boot order changes require a reboot of the Service Profiles and associated blades.

First, create a Boot Policy and add only a DVD and SAN.  The next few screen shots will show how to do so.  Choose any name you like for the policy.

Now add your SAN.  You can add 1 primary and 1 secondary SAN boot objects.  Each SAN boot object can have 1 primary and 1 secondary boot FC targets.  Just remember that do not have to create all of these entries.  You can, if you choose, create just on SAN object with 1 primary SAN boot target.  Myself, I like lots of redundancy, so I created both primary and secondary objects and boot targets.

Now that we are done creating our Boot Policy.  It should look something like this:

Now, apply the Boot Policy to either a Service Profile or to a Service Profile Template.  In my example, I am applying the Boot Policy to a Service Profile Template.  Click on a template, Boot Order and then Modify Boot Policy.

Select the Boot Policy that you just created from the list

Be careful.  At this point, UCM might want to reboot the blades associated with the Service Profile Template.
